For lovers of plants, flowers and birds, this section of the Salkantay Trek offers a first and good opportunity to observe nature.

Once we arrive at the Chaullay village, your tents will already be installed so you can rest after a very challenging day on the Salkantay trail. In this hamlet there is the possibility of taking a hot shower, as the locals rent it for 3 dollars. At night we will enjoy a pleasant conversation and tea time, in addition to a delicious buffet dinner.

** The highlight of the second day in el Salkantay Trek via Llactapata: are the imposing views of Salkantay (the second highest mountain in Cusco) and the transition between the Andean foothills and the beginning of the Amazonian cloud forest.

Once we arrive at the village of Wiñaypoco, we will board a private transport owned by the locals. Then we will be driven for an hour to the town of Lucmabamba. Once here, we will visit a family that has a coffee plantation. This visit consists, of harvesting the coffee beans, peeling them, drying them, roasting them, filtering them and finally taking a sip. After enjoying this extraordinary coffee experience and savoring our delicious buffet lunch. We will ascend by an original section of the Inca trail to Llactapata.

This 4-hour uphill hike is surrounded by one of the most amazing views of the whole trek in Salkantay. In half way there are two swings with a stunning scenery of the Santa Teresa valley and of course we will stop here to swing and enjoy an incredible complete view of surrounding mountains and the majesty sky. Llactapata is a place from where you can see Machu Picchu in the distance. What makes the view of Machu Picchu from Llactapata truly spectacular is the astonishing set of mountains around the Inca citadel, the view of the rear of the Salkantay snow-capped mountain and the entire Aobamba valley in front of us. Without a doubt, one of the best views of the entire Classic Salkantay Trek. After enjoying the Machu Picchu view, we descend for 30 minutes to our camp.

Our camp in Llactapata is considered the most beautiful campsite of the Salkantay Trek (see it for yourself). In the evening we enjoyed our happy hour and a delicious dinner. After dinner our guide will spot some of the most important constellations of the southern hemisphere; Llactapata is located in a mountain with an extraordinary position to stargaze stars through the eyes of the Incas.

** The highlight of the day: Amazing organic and local coffee experience, besides to sleep in the the most incredible Machu Picchu overlook.

Upon our arrival at Hidroelectrica, our porters will be waiting for us with a cold fruit juice and a varied buffet lunch. After lunch, we will have a small farewell ceremony for our porters, since it will be the last time we will see them. Later for 3 hours along the railway to the town of Aguas Calientes. This is the closest town to the citadel of Machu Picchu. In this final section of the trek, we will have the opportunity to observe the most beautiful and colorful birds of our Classic Salkantay Trek; birds such as: the cock of the rock, the great Andean toucan, the motmot, the Andean guan, among others. This ornithological richness is due to the fantastic canopy of the Amazon jungle that surrounds this section of the hike. We can also see perched on the mountains the retaining walls of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, we can say: «The Salkantay Classic Trek through Llactapata is done«. Your guide will accommodate you at your hotel and coordinate dinner time and plan the visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

The highlight of the day: watch the sunrise from the most beautiful viewpoint of Machu Picchu and the observation of colorful birds on the last day of the Salkantay trail.

Your guide will give enough time to take pictures into the most beautiful spots of the Inca citadel, share information about this amazing Incan masterpiece and display you the most impressive details of Machu Picchu.

Then we take the bus back at more or less 12:00 pm. Down to Aguas Calientes to enjoy without rush our lunch. This lunch is optional and not included.
